What is Naturopathic Medicine (NM)?
Naturopathic medicine is a form of complementary medicine based on both scientific and traditional knowledge. Naturopaths are guided by the holistic principles of the
- healing power of nature
- identify and treat the cause
- treat the whole person
- first do no harm
- doctor as teacher
Treatment of a patient involves the use of herbal medicine and nutritional supplementation to support and harness the body’s natural healing abilities. Although some naturopathic physicians (ND’s) specialize in one area of medicine, i.e. urology, ND’s are trained as primary health care doctors whose diverse techniques include modern, traditional and scientific methods.
