You’re Looking At Sleep All Wrong
Sleep is required. Period. A lot of you reading this article deprive yourself of sleep. You tell yourself that lack of sleep and being busy is a badge of honor. I am here to tell you that you are doing more harm than good. You’re hurting yourself more than you know.
I believe most of us have really bad habits because our approach and mindset around sleep is not great. Our devices are distracting us from powering down, we’re not allowing ourselves to truly rest and recover. We don’t use think about exactly how many hours of sleep we need to operate at a functional level.
Frankly, I think we’re looking at sleep all wrong.
We got to start taking sleep seriously and the first way to do that is to make sleep a priority. That means going to bed at the same time every night, and waking up at the same time every day. That means not looking at blue light right before we go to bed.
Taking sleep seriously also means looking at your alcohol intake because alcohol impacts your sleep like nobody’s business.
And you know, I am all about balance and enjoying yourself but for those of you who have a couple of drinks a couple of times a week, just know it does impact the quality of your sleep. And the more you drink, the more of an impact it will have so keep an eye on your booze intake. Enjoy yourself but do it mindfully.
Sleep and Your Urological Health
Sleep is incredibly important for your urological health. It’s important in reducing and preventing the risk of prostate cancer. It’s important for your brain health and a simple way to increase your memory is to get good quality sleep.
Sleep detoxifies the buildup in your brain and washes your brain out using cerebral spinal fluid. Sleep also increases your metabolism so for those of you who are looking to lose weight, sleep is a great way to also increase your testosterone which is why at times in the morning, we get an erection. Men average around 3-5 erections a night which happens only during sleep and the reason why that happens is that your body is keeping your organ healthy by increasing the blood flow to it.
So sleep is going to increase your urological health and overall health. You don’t have to be perfect with your sleep and as I mentioned before, it just requires a better mindset around your sleep. It requires you to make it a priority and the moment you do that, you’ll see the benefits.
Writing Helps With Sleep
I did an episode on sleep that you can go check out here with a list of recommendations but one of the ones you can do is a free write.
Free writing and journaling and writing things down right before you go to bed, even doing a to-do list for the day tomorrow is a great way to clear your brain. By offloading all the things you have on your mind, you’ll be able to sleep easier at night. Tie up any loose ends you have with emails, and conversations, and look at your calendar so you know exactly what you’re getting into the next day.
The free write can be anywhere between 3-5 minutes and you want to jot down your thoughts and possible solutions you may have. This will free your mind and help you sleep easier at night.
